The latest report of SEMI (International Semiconductor Association) shows that the new crown epidemic has stimulated the demand for electronic equipment, and the global semiconductor industry is expected to set a rare record of fab equipment expenditure for three consecutive years. It will increase by 16% in 2020. The predicted growth rate in 2021 is 15.5%, 12% in 2022.

It is reported that during the three-year forecast period, global wafer fabs will increase equipment expenditure by approximately US$10 billion each year, which will eventually reach US$80 billion in the third year.

This year and next two years, most of the fab investment is concentrated in the field of foundry and storage. Specifically, foundry spending is expected to increase by 23% in 2021 to reach 32 billion U.S. dollars, and remain flat in 2022. . Overall storage spending will grow in single digits and will reach 28 billion U.S. dollars by 2021. Driven by DRAM and 3D NAND, it will grow by 26% in 2022.

In addition, power and MPU microprocessor chips will also grow strongly. Driven by the strong demand for power semiconductor components, the investment in the former is expected to grow by 46% and 26% in 2021 and 2022, respectively; the latter will increase with the increase in investment in microprocessors. , MPU will grow at a growth rate of 40% in 2022.

SEMI pointed out that fab equipment expenditures have always been cyclical. After one to two years of growth, there will usually be a drop in the same period of time. The last year that it maintained growth for three consecutive years was 2016, but before that, it had not seen this prosperous situation for nearly 20 years.
